Помогите с переустановкой VMWare Tools

Обновился до 20.04 и система перестала видеть VMWare Tools. Начал устанавливать заново, да не тут-то было. Ругается на предыдущую установленную версию и требует ее уделить, но удалить ее не получается, потому что отсутствует нужный файл. Как исправить ситуацию?

... удалить ее не получается, потому что отсутствует нужный файл...

отсутствует или просто не получается выполнить "Unable to execute"? проверить бы, есть ли сам файл?
